Adian cracked his knuckles nervously as he studied the map his mother had given him before he'd left. It was an easy enough to read map, and the fact that Adian felt lost already only added to the annoyance building up inside him. Perhaps he'd taken a wrong turn? No, that wasn't possible as it was a straight route. Why hadn't he seen the Lab yet? Adian kept wondering in confusion. Maybe he hadn't gone far enough? Or had he missed it? Adian truly didn't know, and the only option was to keep walking.
It didn't take long for Adian to stumble upon the lab. It had been hidden behind a turn. Annoyed with himself, Adian cracked his knuckles again and stored the map in his backpack. 'Shame on me, haven't even gotten a pokemon yet and I'm wandering around scared and confused.' Adian scolded himself as he reached the door.
His mother had told him the professor was a nice person, well nice enough anyway. Adian was nervous, he wouldn't even lie. Part of him believed that he would get a pokemon that would hate him. Maybe that wasn't the truth, but what if it was? Adian had heard some pokemon loathed being captured, and despised the trainer, thinking of them as if they were the enemy. Adian took a deep breathe, pushing the morbid thoughts from his mind and exhaled. With a burst of confidence he opened the door and walked in. "Hello? Professor? I've come for my first pokemon." Adian called out, no more than two steps into the giant lab.

The professor was pokemon researcher Frederick. He had heard the call and had to put down the piles of files he had just got out of the basement. He quickly made his way to the front of the lab. In front of him was a ginger hair boy with a very calm expression about him. Frederick smiled at the boy and shook his hand.
"You must be Savage, right? Adian Savage? I heard you were on your way, though it took far longer than I expected. I had just gotten some paperwork and was going to do them, because i expected you not to show up after all!" Frederick gave an amused chuckle. "But you are here, so come this way." Frederick led the way to a back room. He flicked on the lights and four pillars appeared. He walked over to the first and pushed a button. Three pokeballs appeared on a glass plate.
"We have twelve pokemon available. You may choose one of the twelve." He opened each pokemon. "This one is Bulbasaur." He showed the green pokemon with the dark bulb on its back. "It's a grass and poison type. Very easy to raise." He opened the next pokeball. "This is Charmander, the fire lizard pokemon. It learns quickly but you should take care to raise it steadily." He opened the last of the first three. "This is Squirtle, the water turtle pokemon. It has the chance to be a good pokemon if you raise it well." Frederick waited for the young trainer to look them over.

Adian apologized under his breath to the professor. Yes, he had been late, but he was hoping the professor wouldn't mind. 'Bad first impression' Adian thought to himself, hoping he wouldn't be given a bad pokemon for it. As he thought that, a little part of his head told him there was no such thing as a "bad" pokemon, and the worry went away. As he followed the professor down a hallway into a room, he began to feel a rush of excitement. It was really happening! Adian was about to get his first pokemon and begin his journey on the quest to become a pokemon master!
As Adian stared in amazement, the professor opened the pokeballs one by one. When he hit Charmander, Adian was sold. The pokemon looked so sleek and elegant, yet powerful and willing to fight, Adian was mesmerized. "I want that one." Adian said pointing to the fire pokemon.

The professor watched as Adian's eyes grew wide with excitement at the Charmander. When he immediately said he wanted him Frederick wasn't sure though. He still had nine other pokemon to show.
"Are you sure? Charmander is a very good pokemon, but there are others. There are nine others to be exact to choose from." He waited again, but had his doubts that the new trainer would change his mind. He seemed set on the Charmander, but Frederick was a little worried. Charmanders and their evolvements required constant good training and had to have a confident trainer to do that.

The thought of another pokemon left Adian feeling somewhat appalled. The little Charmander had something in it's eyes. A desire to be free maybe? Or was it a desire to explore and learn and train? Adian couldn't tell, nor did he honestly want to at this particular moment in time. Adian turned his head to the professor, smiling broadly, "No professor, it's okay, I really want Charmander, I think we'll make a great team. Don't worry about us, I'm sure I'll be able to train 'em right." Adian said, nodding as if it confirmed what he said.
It then struck him that he had no idea what he should do now. "So... um, what do I do now?" Adian asked without beating around the bush. Adian thought it was better to get it out now rather than put it off. Save the confusion for something more important.

Frederick nodded. He could tell the kid really wanted the charmander and of course he seemed capable. He sighed then smiled.
"Okay, i can tell you like this pokemon." He said as he returned the bulbasaur and squirtle then put the pokemon back in the pillar, pressing the button to close the hole. "What you do now, i suggest you head to Arch town, through Drylands. Its a tough road but it does test your ambition." He handed the boy six red and white pokeballs then five small spray like bottles. "those are your pokeballs, which you use to capture pokemon, and potions, which you use to heal your pokemon. And this is your pokedex." He handed him a red device. "It records any pokemon you may encounter automatically."
"Now," He continued. "Venture into the world of unknown and try you're very best."

Adian smiled really wide. He grabbed the pokeball to his chest and almost squealed in joy. He stopped himself however, knowing that it wouldn't look good if he let his emotions rule him. It would prove to the professor that he just might not be able to handle the Charmander. Adian listened as he was handed the pokeballs and the potions. "Got it professor, thanks for all your help! One day, you'll look back and remember this, you know why? 'Cause I'm going to be the Elite Four and become famous and a powerful trainer. I promise you that!" Adian cried happily. Turning abruptly, he shot the professor one last wave and exited the building, ready to start his adventure.
