Ruko lapped up the icy water from the only available water in the forest. As it ran down her throat she flinched, then resumed her drink. When she stepped backward she rose on her hind legs and sniffed the air. Everything was fine. It was very quiet for this time of the day, dusk. Usually she could hear a pest or two yelping or barking. But tonight it was quiet. She flicked her tail away from the ground to steady herself as she ran up a nearbye tree. She got on all fours and carefully pawed forward. The branch shook under her weight but she shot forward before it could move to badly. She gripped a thicker branch with her front paws then clambered up. It was stronger and held her fifty pounds just fine. Below her she could see a group of Growlithe snoozing, only the faint sound of them breathing was the only sign the Raichu had that they were alive. Other than that they were still.
The only sounds were gentle breathing and the wind. This somehow scared the usually bold Raichu. She leaped from the branch, landing on all fours. She raised her tail, the thunder rod over her head, in case someone wanted to fight. But nothing came up from behind or front so she relaxed a little. A little.
But just when she did a rustling made her jump onto her back legs and sparks fly out of her tail. This defense was all for nothing, for it was just a rattatta. She sighed and felt foolish for being afraid of something more than half her size and more than half her power. She made her way through some bushes to the edge of the forest and saw the new night stars. They glistened beautifully. So beautifully that it made her sleepy. She settled down and quickly fell asleep.
Ruko woke up in a small room. She should of gotten scared but this room was familiar. She smelled his scent all over. Before she knew it he came in. The boy with the dusty blonde hair and saphire blue eyes came up to her. Instead of shocking him though she just stared. Stared as he reached for her , then scratched her head. "Your the best pokemon, Ruko." His voice was so familiar that Ruko felt she'd not last heard it over a year ago. As she let him pet her soon the good feeling died. Instead of warmth from his hands she felt knives digging into her back. She faced him and saw not Him anymore but a demon. His eyes were red, his face raggad. "YOU ARE THE BEST POKEMON RUKO!" Ruko, for some reason couldn't move. She tried to hit him with her tail, as she always did in close up matches, but she was frozen. He opened his mouth to talk again. Ruko braced herself. But instead of words she heard shuffling.
Ruko woke up to the sound of rattatta scurrying away from the bank. Ruko rose to her feet, shaking off the nightmare, and crept forward, wondering what was happening now.

Out of the pond, on a wave, came a small, blueish-white egg. This egg was quite out of place for the shining forests, for in it contained a Snorunt, though you could not tell from the outside.. The wave dropped the egg on the shore, between two roots of a tree. This was lucky, for without these roots the egg would simply roll back to the bottem of the pond. A rattata ran up to this egg - perhaps it was a tasty snack? It was considering having an early lunnch when the egg began shaking, scaring the timid pokemon away, as a beam of moonlight shone on it from between the above branches, giving hte egg an allmost mystical appearence. As it kept shaking every few seconds, one thing was obious - It would hatch soon. Very soon.

Ruko saw a few more rattatta scurry before she realized what they were hiding from. It's just an egg... She pushed past a prickly bush, where more rattatta ran off, and finally saw the egg. She tilted her head to the side and then sniffed it. It was an egg alright, but it smelled of pond water and leaves, not the usually paternal smell. Ruko pondered whether she should leave, whatever the egg was, it's parents might be nearbye. Ruko didn't like fighting in front of baby pokemon. But just as she was leaving she saw a couple of houndour. Houndour, the fire and dark dog pokemon, could easily eat the egg. Their hungry eyes said that was their exact thoughts as well.
Ruko decided to stay with it just until the parents showed up. She knew it was close to hatching so the parents must not be far off. But just for protection she wrapped her tail around it. The houndour, knowing Ruko's quick attacks, easily scurried off.
Now she just had to wait.

The egg seemed to respond to Ruko's touch. Not only did it start shaking more the moment her tial wrapped arround it, thin, hairline craks began appearing all over the shell. It hopped out of the protective circle of the Raichu's tail, and landed infront of her with a crack as the shell began to give away. More and more of the shell began to give away, until a small, yellow cone-shaped head poked out of the top. The baby pokemon crawled it's way out and sat down, looking straight up at Ruko with a somewhat quiet "Sno~?"

Ruko tilted her head to the side. She had seen this pokemon before; Snorunt. It was an ice pokemon, so she was lucky she had scared off those houndour. She got on her back paws and circled the newly hatched pokemon. She held her tail high over her head as she took in the pokemon's appearance. It didn't seem hurt, but she was no doctor. She also certainly was no mother.
"Rai?" She tilted her head to one side, her bent left ear pricking a little. "Where are your parents?" Ruko didn't think the pokemon would understand, it was, afterall, just a baby. Ruko sighed and set herself down. It was getting late, she wanted to sleep, but first had to find food. Of course she would have to fend for the baby too. She patted Snorunt on the head. "Rai, raichu chu." She laughed. "Don't worry, let's find some food."

The Snorunt spun in circles as Ruko circled her, going in the opposite direction as the Raichu, eventaully falling down. It was apprently some sort of game, for the young pokemon was laughing all the while. After a moment, she stood up and did it again, but stopped when the Raichu spoke. She didn't really understand what was said, so the snorunt simply looked at Ruko questiongly. With a sigh, she sat down at just about the same time as Ruko, and began playing with a small rock. At the word food, she dropped the rock and looked up with a cheerful "Snooo~!"

Ruko smiled. She understood food, that was good. Ruko knew she had some spare apples back in her nest, but didn't want to risk any predators finding her bed, so she glanced up at the tall trees. Most trees were filled with some sort of pokemon already plucking the red apples, but one in the back only had a few pichu in it. Ruko sighed and raced up the tree, leaving the baby at the ground. She waved to the pichu and they immediately gathered around her. It had always been like this. The pichu looked up to her for her age and power. Ruko asked to take some apples and of course the Pichu agreed.
Ruko jumped back down with an apple in her mouth and another in her paws. She ran up to the newly hatched pokemon and handed it an apple. Just then she wondered what it's name was.

The Snorunt watched the Raichu with intrest, and became unconcent with just sitting. So she stood up and followed her, tripping across the ground until she eventually reached the tree. She looked up just as the Raichu jumped, and got startled by her sudden landing. Startled enough to use Powder Snow, freezing the apple in Ruko's mouth, but otherwise doign nothing. The Snorunt blinked and looked at the frozen apple with a dissapointed "Snoo...?" before standing back up and randomly hugging the Raichu,

Ruko's tail tip sparked with electricity, a reflex to being attacked. But she calmed down and when the snorunt hugged her she patted it's head. "Raichu, rai." She laughed. "It's okay, okay?" She had dropped the iced apple but, after pulling away from the baby pokemon, gathered electricity in her tail tip. She tapped the apple with her tail and the ice instantly flew off, turning into shards and hitting in all directions. Raichu couldn't contain her laughter as one piece hit a Pichu who had gotten too close. But she became worried too, until the Pichu jumped up and laughed, before scurrying off to join his pals.
Raichu handed the roasted apple to the Snorunt and smiled. She bit into her own apple to show her it was okay to eat.

somewhat lukily, the Snorunt didn't notice the eletric spark at first, or she would have been startled off. However, she didn't, so she continued on with the hug until the Raichu dropped the apple. She looked at it and then at Ruko, and took a step back as the sparks flew by, earning the Raichu applause from the young Pokemon and yet another excited cheer. "Sno! Snoo!"
When Ruko gave the Snorunt the apple, she looked at it in an odd way, and then back at the Raichu, as if asking what she was to do with it. When she saw her begin eatting it, she grinned and in no time at all began chowing down on the toasted apple.

Ruko watched the baby snorunt chow down, but glanced away to search for her parents. No one. She decided in that instant that she would look after her until her parents did come. She turned to her again. This certain snorunt was small, of course being hatched recently could do that to you. Ruko had only met one snrunt before and it had been way more shy than this little tyke. But not everyone was the same. That snorunt had been damaged by their trainer and the one sitting in front of her didn't know anything of pain yet. Ruko decided to keep it that way. She sighed and tried asking again.
"Raichu? Rai, rai chu chu?" Ruko asked, "What is it? What's your name? Where are your parents?"

The Snorunt looked at Ruko, confused. She still coudn't understand the raichu yet, nor could she speak. So she just continued eatting the apple, until there was nothing left. When the food was gone, she let out a contented, yet sleepy yawn. "Snnooo..." Sleepily, the Snorunt sat down and closed her eyes.

Ruko sighed as the baby pokemon just continued eating. She wished she could talk. It only hit her that the snorunt would be with Ruko longer than usual when she fell asleep. No parents had showed up yet. Ruko felt both mad, happy, and worried, all at the same time. Mad that someone had abandoned it. Happy that she wouldn't have to sleep alone from now on. Worried because she had to protect something...again. The last time she had tried to protect something it didn't work out in her favor.
She scratched her floppy left ear in thought. If the snorunt was to be under her care she had to name it. Ruko tilted her head to the side then petted the snorunt's head. "Raichu." She smiled. "iona."
